Alte Meister (Old Masters Museum in the Dresden Zwinger, Germany)

The Old Masters Gallery in the Dresden Zwinger is one of the top 10 art museums in Germany. Only paintings from the 15th to 18th century are exhibited. Entry Old Masters Dresden 2020

Those who only want to visit the Old Masters Picture Gallery in the Zwinger pay only 6 Euros. For all 3 museums together in the kennel, one pays 12 euros. The other two are the Mathematical-Physical Salon and the Porcelain Museum.

Usually the museum is open from 9 am to 7 pm. Monday is a day off.

Info Old Masters Picture Gallery

A total of about 750 paintings are exhibited in the large picture gallery in the old town of Dresden. The museum has considerably more paintings, the others are stored. From 2019 to February 2020 the Old Masters Gallery will be rebuilt. On the leap year day 29.2.20 the whole gallery is supposed to be open for visitors again.

One of the very large works in the Gemäldegalerie in Dresden is the large painting “Sistine Madonna” by Rafael (about 2.5 x 2 m).

 

Other world-famous paintings in the Old Masters Museum are for example: The Tin Penny (Titian), Sanctification of the Blind (El Greco), Ganymede in the Fangs of the Eagle (Rembrandt), At the Bawd (Vermeer) and many others.
